We are very proud of Himeji Castle, listed in the World Cultural

Heritages by UNESCO.

We can see the great castle everyday when we play on the school-ground equipment.

Everyday, we go to school through Kumataka-Gate that leads us to the castle.

Information from Jonan Elementary School.

We wish to correspond with pupils of an elementary school which has a castle in town.
We have a special class called "Kids history class" to study deeply about the castle.
We have only 211 pupils in Jonan elementary school. We are one of smaller schools out of 57 elementary schools in Himeji.
We would a
‚Œso like to exchange with pupils of a smaller school in another town.

Teacher's Comments

Kouji Inoue

When I got an application form of this project, I thought that there might be no participating schools from Himeji City, because we, elementary schools of Himeji, don't have enough conditions to access to Internet so far, and I didn't do anything about this project.
But with a strong encouragement of neighbors, we finally decided to join this project and do the best we can.
Our application was approved and a free rental digital camera was sent to our school. I had to start without any idea, because I couldn't participate the briefing session of the project. But when my pupils firstly saw the digital camera, they looked like much advanced than me,
saying " I have a digital camera and bought additional parts to take more pictures."
As our school is featured by the closest location to Himeji Castle, we began to take pictures nearby with the scenery of the castle. Some pupils devoted themselves to take pictures with great expectations to publish their own pictures in the Homepage. We finished the picture process, then we began to draw up the drafts of the homepage.
although we also had lots of troubles in this process, we finally achieved and printed out one page with great supports from a member of Himeji junior Chamber. We were very happy with a smile, because our first work was fairly good.
Our principal saw our homepage and he kindly asked the Board of Education of Himeji City about an access to Internet from our PC in school.
Unfortunately, the BOE of Himeji didn't have enough budget for us to access to Internet at that time, but we hope that someday we will be able to access to Internet freely and all the pupils be able to see their own homepage in Jonan Elementary School
